LAUDERHILL, Fla. — Three children, ages 8, 10 and 11, are accused of starting a blaze that destroyed an abandoned house Tuesday morning, according to Lauderhill Fire Rescue.
The trio was taken into custody and enrolled in the Juvenile Firesetter Prevention and Intervention Program, a workshop run by the Broward Sheriff’s Office for children involved with arson.
Witnesses told investigators they saw the children running away from the burning house at 3451 NW Fourth St., in the Broward Estates neighborhood. The fire began shortly before 10 a.m.
Though no one lived in the single-story building, the house was full of stored items that blocked doors and fueled the flames, said Fire-Rescue Lt. Jeff Levy.
Firefighters quelched the blaze in 25 minutes, Levy said. No injuries were reported.
