LAUDERHILL, Fla. — A Lauderhill Fire Department veteran is recovering Saturday after a roof collapsed on top of him, as he helped to extinguish a house fire. Lauderhill Firefighter Greg Nicholson suffered some non-life threating back injuries and was released from Florida Medical Center Friday. He has been with the force for 10 years, said Lauderhill Lt. Jerry Gonzalez said.
“There was a partial patio roof collapse in the back of the home when he got hurt,” Gonzalez said.
About 3 p.m. Friday, firefighters responded to a fire in the back of a single story home, 4230 NW 73rd Ave. There was heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the house when they arrived. No one was inside, but the fire left two people homeless, Gonzalez said.
