PERRY TWP., Ind. — Four people and two dogs escaped from a fire that claimed the life of another pet and destroyed a home on the Far Southside this morning.

Perry Township firefighters were called to the blaze in the 3700 block of East Stop 11 road at about 7:30 a.m., Perry Township Fire Department spokesman Russ Futrell said.

Thinking a 13-year-old boy might be inside the home, firefighters entered and attacked the flames from inside as they searched. The boy had actually left for school before the fire began, Futrell said.
