ALBERTA, Canada — A 70-year-old volunteer firefighter died Monday after suffering a medical emergency while battling a fire on his own property.
Lac La Biche Post reported that the firefighter was attempting to extinguish a grass fire at his residence. When officers arrived on the scene, the man had suffered a cardiac arrest.
“We are very saddened by this tragic event,” Acting Mayor Robert Richard said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.”
Mayor Richard described the firefighter as a long-serving, respected volunteer firefighter. Family members had not been notified yet, so he did not reveal the firefighter’s name.
