Man thanks firefighter who saved his life

He was the last man left in the apartment building after it caught fire and the firefighter rescued him

YAKIMA, Wash. — A man who lost everything in an apartment fire Saturday took the time to thank the firefighter who saved his life.

KIMAtv.com reported that Lt. Joe Chinco, one of the first to arrive to the fire early Saturday morning, rescued Jon Salsgiver, who was released from the hospital Monday, after his apartment building was destroyed by a fire.

“I think the last time we met was at the bottom of a set of stairs,” said Lt. Chinco.

“And you’re the man that jumped up and grabbed me. Thank you.”

Lt. Chinco said he was glad to be able to shake his hand again, KIMA reported.

“It’s really hard to say anything right now of what’s going to be happening,” Salsgiver said. “We’re just hoping that, well we know that we’ll get through it one way or another.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
