NEWTON, Mass. — Investigators are seeking the cause of two fires in Newton, one of which sent two residents and a firefighter to area hospitals.
Firefighters on Tuesday night rescued by ladder a third-floor resident who was trapped by flames in a multi-family home on Crafts Street. Officials said the man, who was able to stay in communication with firefighters by phone during the ordeal, was treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation and other injuries.
Officials said another resident of the building was also treated for smoke inhalation and a firefighter suffered a shoulder injury.
That fire broke out about three hours after flames heavily damaged a home on Nahanton Street. No injuries were reported in that blaze.
Fire crews from at least four neighboring communities helped battle the Newton fires.
