BALTIMORE, Md. — Two dogs died and a third had serious burn injuries from a fire in a home in South Baltimore Wednesday evening, according to the fire department.

A firefighter also suffered minor injuries from a fall while fighting the blaze in the 2500 block of Huron St. in Mount Winans around 5 p.m. He was taken to Mercy Hospital for treatment.

The family got out of the home without injuries, and a fourth dog was uninjured.

After neutralizing the fire, firefighters went inside, where they found the pets in their crates, department spokesman Ian Brennan said.

The dogs were administered oxygen, given blankets and comforted by family, paramedics and firefighters, Brennan said. Animal control took all four to an animal hospital.

Fire investigators are working to determine the fire’s cause.
