Md. firefighters battle townhouse fire, collapse

Between 40 and 50 firefighters put the bulk of the fire out in approximately 45 minutes

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — Prince George’s Fire Department Chief Marc S. Bashoor says 11 people, including one infant, have been displaced after a townhouse fire in Upper Marlboro, but none of them are injured.

Firefighters from the Forestville area called to the fire at about 11:15 p.m. Thursday. According the Bashoor, the first firefighters on the scene found fire on the 1st floor area of an end of the row townhouse in the 3000 block of Chester Grove The fire spread to second floor, and there the front wall of a second floor unit collapse.

Between 40 and 50 firefighters put the bulk of the fire out in approximately 45 minutes.

The original townhouse where the fire started and three other townhouses were damaged and deemed uninhabitable. Fire loss is estimated at $525,000.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire.

PGFD and the community association are helping the people who were displaced by the fire.
