SEBEWAING, Mich. — A fire chief and his family lost their home to a fire over the weekend.

Sebewaing Fire Chief Matt Bumhoffer was at church with his wife and four children when he received a fire call at his address.

“It really hurts to be on the end of the hose, I guess you could say,” Chief Bumhoffer told ABC12.

The chief and his family lost most of their belongings in the fire. Community members are collecting donations for Chief Bumhoffer and his family. A GoFundMe page has raised over $7,000. Friends of the chief also offered him a vehicle.

“You can only imagine the horror when you find out it’s your own house,” Pam Geiger, a member of Chief Bumhoffer’s church, said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
