WAVELAND, Miss. — A Waveland firefighter was injured Saturday afternoon while responding to a report of a blaze at a U.S. 90 business.
Witnesses said firefighter Donald Peters was responding to a fire at Ray’s Quick Lube at McLaurin and 90.
Reportedly, when he went into the building, smoke obscured the oil-changing pit in the floor and he fell in.
The accident occurred shortly before 3 p.m.
The fire was quickly extinguished and Peters pulled from the pit.
He was conscious and talking with other firefighters and the American Medical Response crew, but appeared to have an injured leg.
Waveland Fire Chief Mike Smith said Saturday that Peters’ leg was dislocated not broken, as originally feared.
