SAN JOSE, Calif. — A mother and four children safely got out of their house in North San Jose this morning after a fire broke out in the attic, according to fire officials.
The one-alarm blaze was reported at 6:37 a.m. in a two-story home on Zoria Circle, near Hostetter and Four Oaks roads, according to San Jose fire Capt. Scott Kouns. The woman who lived at the house called the fire department to report a odor and sparks coming from a wall outlet, according to San Jose fire Capt. Mary Gutierrez.
The fire department received other calls from people reporting black smoke coming through the vents of the second story.
Firefighters arrived at the house in six minutes and quickly knocked down the bulk of the fire, Kouns said.
Firefighters were able to get some personal belongings out of the house for the displaced residents.
Gutierrez said the fire caused “quite a bit” of damage to the attic, roof and second-story. The fire remains under investigation.
The American Red Cross Silicon Valley responded to help the displaced family.
