SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash.—Several engines from the Spokane Valley Fire Department responded to an early morning house fire Monday on the 600 block of N. Vista Road.

The call came in just before 5:30 A.M. after flames were spotted shooting from a carport. The fire then jumped to the attached home.

Firefighters said they aggressively fought the fire because the home was surrounded by dozens of trees and shrubs. Panicked neighbors even got on their roof to douse their home with a garden house. They said embers from the fire were drifting onto their garage.
