PAHRUMP, Nev. — Authorities in a rural area of Nevada say three young children and a babysitter were killed in a house fire, and at least four people were injured trying to rescue them.
Pahrump Fire Chief Scott Lewis tells The Associated Press that a fifth person was hurt escaping the 9:30 a.m. Wednesday blaze. Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo says all three boys killed in the fire were under age 4.
He says the 24-year-old female babysitter was on the telephone with Nye County emergency dispatchers when she died.
DeMeo says the intensity of the fire in the double-wide mobile home turned rescuers back.
The injured included three on- and off-duty sheriff’s deputies and a firefighter.
Pahrump is about 60 miles west of Las Vegas.
