PORTLAND, Ore. — A Portland firefighter responding to a Southwest Portland house fire was rushed to the hospital Monday after being shocked by 240-volt power lines in the ceiling and hit in the head by falling pieces of the structure.

Portland Fire & Rescue responded to the blaze at 3226 SW Dolph Ct. at 1:30 p.m. and were on the scene for two hours. Fire investigators believe oily rags on a wooden table most likely caused the fire, with damages estimated at $40,000, said Lt. Rich Chatman, a Portland Fire Bureau spokesman.

The residents were not home at the time of the fire. Chatman said the blaze destroyed the house’s attic.
