EAST HAVEN, Conn. — A small plane approaching a Connecticut airport has crashed into a house, touching off a fire.

The East Haven Fire Department dispatcher says the extent of any injuries from the crash is unknown. A neighbor, David Esposito, says he heard a woman screaming that her children were inside the burning home. He says he went into the house but had to leave because of the fire.

Smoke is rising from the scene and photographs show a small house on fire.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the multi-engine propeller-driven aircraft flew out of Teterboro Airport in New Jersey and crashed as it approached the Tweed New Haven Airport at 11:25 a.m. Friday.

No other information was immediately available.

Ambulances and emergency crews from multiple jurisdictions are responding.
