Texas firehouse burns down

Fire also seriously damaged pumper truck, rescue gear, medical equipment belonging to all-volunteer department

SAN MANUEL, Texas — A fire destroyed a Texas firehouse Saturday while firefighters were attending a Christmas party in a nearby town.

The fire also seriously damaged a pumper truck, rescue gear and medical equipment belonging to the all-volunteer Linn-San Manuel Fire Department, according to The Monitor.

The department still has one tanker truck and two brush trucks, which were with the firefighters at the party in Edinburg, Chief Domingo Hinojosa Jr. said.

The firefighters from the department responded to the 911 dispatcher immediately, and several nearby departments came to lend a hand. They continue to help by allowing Linn-San Manuel to borrow gear and a truck.

The company that owns the land around the fire station will let the department use a shed and old convenience store next door for meeting, training and storing equipment, The Monitor said.

“We’re going to continue to serve and protect our community,” Chief Hinojosa said. “We still have fire equipment.”
