MOGADORE, Ohio — Firefighters rescued two trapped occupants from a burning home in Mogadore, Ohio, on Friday.
Video posted online shows a firefighter entering the front door 3:30 into the footage, then emerging from the structure 30 seconds later carrying a victim who is placed on the front lawn.
At the 12:41 mark, a firefighter appears to be guiding another person out of the building.
The first arriving firefighters, Ben Stasik and Nick Sansom, worked as a team to make the rescues, according to WSBT.
Realizing that time was running out for anyone trapped inside, Firefighter Sansom attacked the fire as Firefighter Stasik moved in to locate victims.
“I heard (the wife) scream, and that’s when I made the decision to go inside without a hoseline and see if I could locate her,” Stasik said.
Fire Chief Don Adams recognized the danger of entering the building without another firefighter, but ultimately commended the rescue.
“It’s a tremendous thing when a fireman lays down his hose. That nozzle is there to protect him and to go past it, you’re laying it all on the line,” Chief Adams said.
Fireground audio from the incident was also posted online.
Chief Adams also sent an e-mail to fire blogger David Statter, explaining details from the incident.
“We are a small department that staffs two part time F/Fs 24/7. Many of my guys are full time elsewhere,” Chief Adams wrote.
“I fully understand the frequent complaints regarding unsafe work practices. However for this call, I could not be prouder of my boys.”
