SAN SABA, Texas —A fire that broke out Sunday afternoon on a railroad trestle across the Lower Colorado River between San Saba and Lometa continued to burn Monday and officials at the scene estimated the bridge could be a $10 million loss.
The fire started a little after 4 p.m. Sunday on the San Saba side of the river and the 300-yard-long bridge was engulfed in flames when the first volunteer firefighters arrived about 20 minutes later.
Firefighters determined it would be too dangerous to battle the flames from the bridge and decided to let the fire burn.
