Video: 'Visiting firefighter' falls through roof training at Detroit fire
Visiting Belgian firefighters were observing the Detroit crews when a roof collapsed
DETROIT — Belgian firefighters visiting Detroit crews to see them in action fell through the roof of a burning building while out on a call.
The Belgium crew was observing the Detroit firefighters battle a vacant building fire, when the roof collapsed under them, according to WDIV.
No one was injured in the accident.
Firefighter Marc Opstal, one of the Belgian firefighters told Statter911 that he and his crew were all guests of the Detroit Fire Department and did not pay anything to ride along and have done similar trips all throughout the U.S. for their training.
This accident comes after a previous report that the cash-strapped city had considered allowing tourists to pay to fight fires as part of a "ride-along training program."
