PORTLAND, Ore. — Two teenagers are in custody for throwing rocks off of a railroad overpass early Wednesday morning, damaging the windshield and hood of a Portland Fire & Rescue Chief Officer’s vehicle while he was driving to work.
“My first thought was there had been an earthquake and the bridge had collapsed,” Deputy Chief Jeff Bancroft told KATU.
Bancroft was able to pull over and flip on his emergency lights and call police. “I don’t really remember how I stopped or anything like that. I was just kind of shocked that it happened. It was as loud as if someone shot the car with a shotgun,” Bancroft said.
