DETROIT — A deputy fire chief has been suspended after allegedly using a department SUV to drive to a bar.
ClickonDetroit reported that Deputy Chief Robert Shinske, who was caught on video parking the Detroit Fire Department-marked SUV outside a bar and walking inside, was suspended without pay for five days. A closed disciplinary hearing was held Wednesday; the department confirmed he violated policy.
In the video, Shinske, a 31-year member of the department, appeared to stagger as he got out of the vehicle just after 1:30 a.m.
The Firefighters’ Union issued a statement after the hearing.
“The Union fully anticipated today’s charge hearing would either involve a discharge or a demotion. The Union was informed at the charge hearing that Commissioner (Eric) Jones issued a brief suspension.”
Commissioner Jones, who was not present at the hearing, did not comment.
