CASPER, Wyo. — A fire chief retired early after a string of sexually explicit emails he sent with his work account were anonymously sent out to firefighters.

Casper Star-Tribune reported that Casper Fire Chief Kenneth King retired a month earlier than his expected date, saying he made the decision to leave sooner because he hoped to watch the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona with his son.

However, the early retirement comes on the heels of an incident earlier this month where firefighters were given a flash drive with copies of Chief King’s work emails. The emails included suggestive messages sent to women and other explicit comments made about women to other staff members.

One email in particular was sent by Chief King in April 2015 and included a link to a story about a female first responder who died in a water rescue. A firefighter responded, “At least it was just a female,” to which Chief King said, “Copy that!”

“My only comment is that I’m sorry if any of my emails have made anyone feel uncomfortable,” Chief King said.
