BERGEN, N.Y. — Two teenagers were transported to the hospital after their vehicle collided with an assistant fire chief’s personal vehicle.
South Byron Assistant Fire Chief James McKenzie, 52, was responding to a crash in his personal vehicle Friday night, reported the Daily News Online. Officials said Vitorrio Muoio, 18, failed to yield at a stop sign and struck Chief McKenzie’s truck. The crash sent Chief McKenzie’s truck off the road and into a field.
Muoio was airlifted to the hospital for head injuries; he was not wearing a seat belt. Andrew Konieczny, 19, was in the passenger seat of Muoio’s vehicle; he was taken to the hospital by ambulance for head injuries.
Chief McKenzie had his red emergency light activated when the crash occurred. He did not suffer any injuries.
Muoio was charged with failure to yield, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and seat belt violations.
