GALVESTON, Texas — A former San Leon assistant fire chief has been indicted by a grand jury on an allegation of stealing more than $100,000 from fire department coffers, Galveston County prosecutors said.

Eldon Scott Lyons, 39, was charged by indictment on Thursday with theft by a public servant of more than $100,000 but less than $200,000, the district attorney’s office said in a news release.

Lyons is accused of using fire department money to make personal purchases from July 2008 through May 2015.

If convicted, Lyons faces five years to life imprisonment and a fine of up to $10,000.

Lyons’ bail was set at $20,000 and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He had not been booked into the Galveston County Jail as of early Friday evening.
