SAYVILLE, N.Y. — A volunteer firefighter died Saturday an hour after responding to a commercial structure fire.
U.S. Fire Administration reported that firefighter Lawrence Sesso, 40, with the Sayville (N.Y.) Fire Department, suffered a cardiac arrested on his way home from responding to a fire and participating in a fire department parade.
He was transported to a hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Sesso was fire chief with the department from 2009-2011. It’s the department’s first line of duty death in 23 years.
Services will be at Raynor & D’Andrea in Sayville on Aug. 25 from 7-9:30 p.m. and on Aug. 26 from 2-4:30 p.m. and 7-9:30 p.m. Burial will be on Aug. 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Sayville Fire Department made out to “In Memory of Lawrence G. Sesso.”
