BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Jason Colson was named Bowling Green Fire Department’s new fire chief Friday.

Bowling Green Daily News reported that Colson has been a member of the department since 1995 and has had firefighting in his blood since a young age.

“I took him out on his first run when he was 5,” said Connie Colson, Colson’s mother, who volunteered for the Barren River Volunteer Fire Department. His father was chief of the volunteer department for several years and his brother is an assistant chief with the Georgetown Fire Department.

“It is our expectation that … (Colson) will take this department into a new future,” City Manager Kevin DeFebbo said.

Colson spent six years as a sergeant, over seven years as a captain and has been assistant chief of training since 2014.

“I’ve grown up around it and had a passion for it,” Colson said. “We’ve got a great department and we do a tremendous job. My priority now is to find opportunities to improve the level of service the community receives.”
