HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Hamilton Township officials have ended their investigation into the community’s fire chief after he announced he will leave the department at the end of the year.
Fire Chief Mark Greatorex was placed on paid administrative leave nearly two weeks ago while an independent investigator probed his handling of an incident in which firefighters broke down the door of the wrong house during a call for a medical alarm. Greatorex, who was appointed to lead the 38-member department in 2009, makes about $80,000 a year. He will continue on paid leave through Dec. 31, Township Administrator Gary Boeres said.
Township officials have refused to talk about what Greatorex allegedly did wrong involving the emergency call. An incident report said the call involved an alarm activation at a residence in the 1600 block of E. Fosters-Maineville Rd. at 2:20 p.m. on Oct. 7. The alarm malfunctioned due to a power outage, the report said.
