SOMERVILLE, N.J. — Anita Kavanaugh is losing faith. She is losing faith in the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office. She is losing faith in the Somerville Police and Fire Departments. She is losing faith in people.

It has been more than four months since her husband, George Kavanaugh, a former chief of the Somerville Fire Department, was killed in a hit-and-run crash in front of Lincoln Hose Company No. 4. Authorities have made no arrests so far.

Anita Kavanaugh calls the prosecutor’s office at least once a week and sometimes twice. The response is always the same, she said: no updates. But authorities have said they believe the driver of the vehicle may have been a firefighter or someone affiliated with the fire department.
