HOLMEN, Wis. — A fire chief was suspended indefinitely with pay pending an investigation into his ability to lead.
WXOW reported that the Holmen (Wis.) Fire Department board held a special meeting Sunday to discuss Chief Doug Schober’s current position with the department and questioned his leadership skills.
After deliberating for an hour at the closed meeting, board members announced that Chief Schober would be suspended indefinitely.
A member of the fire board said questions surrounding the chief’s leadership skills have been going on for quite some time.
“We really have no timeline on this. This is the preliminary stages and we basically needed to take this action today to begin the process,” board member Chuck Olson said. “We’ve made a decision to do this, I think it’s a positive for our community.”
Assistant Chief Wes Linberg and Bill Bulawa will be co-chiefs while the investigation continues.
The next board meeting is set for Dec. 3.
