4 Mich. firefighters abruptly resign after board meeting

It’s still unknown why they decided to leave the department; sources say it stemmed from the handling of a personnel issue with another firefighter

NEWAYGO, Mich. — The Newaygo Area Fire District is looking for volunteers after four of its firefighters and one board member abruptly quit.

The resignations were tendered at Thursday’s fire board meeting. One of those who resigned is former fire chief Tim Cronk, who has been with the department for 29 years. None of the firefighters would speak with 24 Hour News 8 Tuesday, so it’s still unknown why they decided to leave the department.

But sources close to the department say the resignations stemmed from the handling of a personnel issue with another employee. John Schneider, Newaygo’s city manager, has been on the fire board since this summer.
