SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department has launched a new website allowing city residents to be updated on every 911 call being answered.
The site, announced Monday, was created to cut down on how many people were calling 911 to figure out why they were hearing sirens and what was going on, Southwest Riverside News Network.
“Fire dispatchers are on the front line of emergency response,” Susan Infantino, communications manager for the department said. “Answering questions from curious callers not only delays them from doing the important job of emergency dispatch. It clogs the phone lines and could delay a legitimate 911 call from getting through.”
No patient information is given on the site and is updated every five minutes every day, 24 hours a day.
