BOURNE, Mass. — Inmates recently helped a local fire department build a temporary shelter to keep supplies dry during construction.
Inmates from the Barnstable County Correctional Facility helped construct and set up the tent on a piece of land that will allow the fire department to store and keep equipment dry while a new firehouse is constructed, Cape Cod Today reported.
As the budget stretched for the new construction, receiving the tent as a donation and the labor for free from the inmates allowed the fire department to save a little extra money.
Barnstable County Sheriff Jim Cummings said he was “happy to provide [the help].”
This isn’t the first time inmates provided some help. A couple of years ago, one inmate painted a new mural inside the fire department’s headquarters, the publication reported.
