NY fire recruit fired over offensive YouTube video

The firefighter was terminated under the terms of his probationary employment

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A fire recruit was fired after posting a video to YouTube containing offensive remarks.

13Wham reported that the recruit was fired by the Rochester (N.Y.) Fire Department after officials received information about the video.

“The Rochester Fire Department is a well-respected, professional and inclusive organization,” a press release from the department said. “Recruit firefighters are trained to be professional at all times and to respect the diversity of their fellow firefighters and all of the residents they are sworn to protect and serve.”

James Smith, director of communications, said the firefighter was terminated under the terms of his probationary employment.
