BOSTON — An on-duty Boston firefighter was arrested Tuesday night on drug possession charges after he was found with a plastic bag of heroin.
Firefighter Stephen Hogan, 24, was spotted by Drug Control Unit officers leaving a car with a plastic bag containing a powder believed to be heroin, according to a police statement.
Before officers arrested Firefighter Hogan, they said that he was holding the bag and entered a vehicle that drove around the block once and dropped him off.
“Believing that a drug transaction had taken place, officer approached the suspect after he exited the vehicle and found him to be in possession of a plastic bag containing a tan powder believed to be heroin,’’ the statement said.
The Boston Globe reports that Firefighter Hogan joined the department in July and that since the arrest, he has resigned. Because of his resignation, the department would not comment on Firefighter Hogan’s on-duty performance.
