Vol. dept. liquidates after funds stolen

An asset sale will fund fire departments now covering the area

LOYALHANNA, Pa. — Brian Kitch kept his nerve as he raised his white card to bid higher and higher on the former Loyalhanna Volunteer Fire Department building during an auction Saturday near Slickville.

After a nerve-racking bidding war, Kitch, 27, won the 2.12-acre property and the 4,900-square foot garage and social hall for $90,000.

The Slickville man is the third-generation owner of nearby Kitch’s Auto Service. He said his business badly needs a new building, so he plans to move his garage to the new, larger site along Slickville-Saltsburg Road in the spring.
