KIDDER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A volunteer fire official will plead guilty to stealing $32,000 from a firefighter’s relief fund.
PaHomePage.com reported that Amanda Devine, the relief fund’s treasurer, took the money from the Kidder Township (Pa.) Volunteer Fire Department. She agreed to pay back the money and plead guilty to theft by unlawful taking.
Investigators learned about the suspected theft through a tip. Forensic Accountant Nathan Lipton said he found red flags in the account Devine managed.
After police charged Devine in September, Kidder Township officials shut down the department, saying it had a pattern of financial mismanagement. Other departments in the area now respond to their calls.
One angered resident said Devine’s actions put every member of the community at risk.
Devine will formally enter her plea in January.
