ROGERSVILLE, Tenn. — An upper East Tennessee volunteer fireman has been charged with felony filing a false report for allegedly calling in a phony fire call and then responding to the call with his department.
Shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday, Hawkins County 911 received an anonymous report of a fire on Heck Branch Road, which is within the service area of the Lakeview Volunteer Fire Department. The caller stated something on the hill was burning, but he couldn’t identify what. Four Lakeview trucks and 10 members responded to the call, including Kevin Michael Boyke, 20, 185 Price Hollow Road, Rogersville.
A tipster later identified Boyke as the alleged caller. When Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Brian Boggs questioned Boyke he allegedly admitted to starting the fire “because he thought it would be fun.”
