DETROIT, Mich. — Comerica Bank has announced that a Detroit firefighter is the winner of its Home of the Brave National Anthem Singing Contest.
As a result of his win, Martin Rucker will sing the anthem at the Tigers game on Sunday. He also gets 40 tickets to the game, and his station earns a $10,000 grant from Comerica Bank.
Rucker is a 14-year veteran of the Detroit fire department. He’s a fire engine operator.
Police officers and firefighters from southeastern Michigan submitted videos to the Comerica Cares Facebook page.
A panel of judges from the Tigers, the media and Comerica Bank narrowed the submissions to the top 10 for public voting. More than 15,000 votes were cast during the two-week public voting period.
Rucker finished with 4,008 votes.
