Firefighter crashes van into Ind. home, suffers burns

The battalion chief was taken to a hospital with critical injuries to his hands and face; he rammed his car into his house while police were speaking to his wife about a domestic incident

HEBRON, Ind. — A battalion chief with the Hobart Fire Department was taken to a Crown Point hospital Tuesday morning with severe burns after crashing a minivan into a house near Hebron.

John C. Wall was taken by ambulance to Franciscan St. Anthony Health with critical injuries to his hands and face, said Sgt. Larry LaFlower, public information officer with the Porter County Sheriff’s Department.

Wall already had been charged with multiple felonies last month after attacking his wife and threatening her with a gun. The sheriff’s department and several area fire departments responded to the scene of the fire, at a home in the 600 block of County Road 650 South outside of Hebron, Ind.
