NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario — Niagara Falls, Ont., police and firefighters spent all night talking a man out of jumping over the Horseshoe Falls.
The 49-year-old St. Catharines resident, whose name is not being released by police, had climbed over the retaining wall at Table Rock House Welcome Centre, located at the brink of Niagara Falls, Ont., and threatened to jump around 5:09 p.m. Thursday.
He was finally talked down at 7:30 a.m. today. He returned from his perch onto a safe area and was taken to a medical facility for assessment, according to Niagara Falls police.
“The person came up and no one was injured,” said John Collucci, the platoon chief of the Niagara Falls Fire Department in Canada. “It was a long night.”
The Niagara Regional Police Service, Niagara Parks Police, Niagara EMS and Niagara Falls Fire Department were at the scene.
During the standoff, the man’s family members also came to the falls, and about 8 p.m. last night, a man was escorted close to the railing to talk to him, according to the Niagara Falls Review.
