LOGANVILLE, Pa. — Loganville Fire Chief Rodney Miller died Saturday, while working a motor vehicle crash.
Yorkblog.com reported that Miller, 45, was killed on I-83 south around 12:30 a.m. Saturday when he was directing traffic for a crash that occurred nearby. He was taken to York Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival due to multiple blunt-force trauma, according to the report.
“He was just a perfect example of what a community person can be,” said Stan Brown, a former Loganville fire chief and friend.
The Pennsylvania State Police at York barracks said Matthew Scott Diehl, 32, was taken into custody and charged with homicide by vehicle and driving under the influence, according to the report.
Diehl, who was in the left lane, moved over to the right lane and went around Miller’s vehicle, which was parked in the right lane with its emergency lights activated. He struck Miller with the front passenger side of his car, according to the report.
Yorkblog.com reported that Diehl is at York County Prison and District Justice Jeff Joy denied bail.
