Efforts to revive the 31-year fire veteran by fellow firefighters were unsuccessful

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Matthew McKnight died while on duty early Monday morning, according to a post on the department’s website.

McKnight, 51, and a 31-year veteran of the LAFD, was near the end of a five-hour watch when colleagues found him unresponsive at 1:07 a.m. inside the LAFD Metropolitan Fire Communication Center at 500 E. Temple St.

Despite efforts by colleagues, who performed CPR, applied a defibrillator and instituted advanced life support measures, McKnight was pronounced dead Monday morning at Los Angeles County USC Medical Center, according to the website.
