Man sleeping in trash container gets dumped into truck

Firefighters were able to pull the man out of the truck; he was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital

EL PASO, Texas — A man sleeping in a trash container was rescued Saturday morning after being dumped into a garbage truck in East El Paso.

The man, whose name was not released, was sleeping in a trash container at about 8:30 a.m. at 10701 Vista Del Sol Drive when he was thrown into the back of a garbage truck as a crew emptied the dumpster, El Paso Fire Department officials said.

The driver of the garbage truck heard screaming from inside the truck and reported it to dispatch, who then called 911, officials said.

Firefighters were able to pull the man out of the truck at about 9:30 a.m., officials said. The man was treated at the scene and then taken to Del Sol Medical Center. His condition was not released.

A total of 13 fire units and 22 firefighters responded to the incident, officials said. El Paso police assisted with the incident. No other injuries were reported.
