SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — A city firefighter was shot in the arm apparently by a projectile from a pellet gun on Tuesday afternoon in Old Hill as he attempted to shut off a fire hydrant that had been opened by a group of teens, officials said.
The firefighter, Lt. Eddie Sanchez, suffered a minor injury to his left arm but he declined treatment, said Dennis Leger, aide to Fire Commissioner Joseph Conant.
Sanchez reported feeling a burning pain in his left arm and then seeing one of the teens stuffing what he thought looked like a pellet gun in his pants as he walked away from the scene, Leger said.
