MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. — A volunteer firefighter and military medic will be recognized for saving an infant who was left in a hot vehicle earlier this month.
James Daniel Munns was at a Verizon store in San Antonio, Texas, after attending a military leadership course when two women rushed out and returned with a toddler who was red, hot and visibly in distress. Munns treated the child for potential heat exhaustion before emergency crews arrived, reported Clarkesville Now.
“Had it not been for the U.S. Army Combat Medic and firefighter Munns’ hasty actions, the potential outcome of his situation could have been extremely detrimental for the child. His dedication to the protection of life is clearly shown through his actions and professionalism on scene,” San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood wrote in a letter to Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett.
The Montgomery County firefighter and Fort Campbell combat medic will be honored for his actions Sept. 6.
“To save someone’s life is always a great feeling,” Munns told Clarksville Now. “It’s good to know you’ve had a positive impact on the public. That’s the reason why people do these volunteer positions and go into emergency services.”
