PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. — A firefighter who volunteered in the village and now serves his community in Newtown, Conn., helped bring two fire departments together in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Now Randy Muller and members of the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company will march Friday in Pleasantville during a parade hosted by the village’s volunteer Fire Department.

“What they did for their community — it’s a reflection of what we should be prepared to do if, God forbid, there’s such an event,” said Manny Colmenarus, the Pleasantville fire chief. “We want to recognize their efforts and hard work.”
