VICTORVILLE, Calif. — Authorities are investigating a shooting at a firefighters’ command post for the North Fire in Victorville, Calif.
ABC7.com reported that a U.S. Forest Service police officer contacted a man, identified as 60-year-old John Gocke, who was not cooperating with camp security at about 9 p.m. at the entrance of the command post.
Gocke then attempted to flee and dragged the officer along with the car. The officer opened fire, striking the car multiple times. No one was injured, according to the report.
San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies took Gocke, who retired from the sheriff’s department at the rank of captain in 2004, into custody.
