W.Va. firefighter in ICU after hit-and-run

Firefighter Harold Goodall was crossing the road to get a cup of coffee; he suffered a back injury and broken pelvis

MILTON, W.Va. — A volunteer firefighter remains in the hospital after being hit by a vehicle in front of a fire station Sunday night.

WSAZ.com reported that firefighter Harold Goodall, 44, was hit about 11:15 p.m. as he was crossing the road to get a cup of coffee. Police said the driver of the vehicle, Michael Casey, did not stop following the accident. He was located at a nearby home about two hours after the accident.

The driver has been charged with misdemeanor leaving the scene of an accident causing injury.

Milton Fire Department Engineer Reed Cook says considering what could’ve happened, a misdemeanor doesn’t feel like enough, according to the report.

“If you hit somebody and you keep on going, I think it should be more than a misdemeanor,” Cook said. “To me, it ought to be a felony.”

Goodall suffered a back injury and a broken pelvis.

Casey was arraigned and released on bond Monday.
