Fire Prevention and Safety Grant Application Period To Open Soon

By The National Volunteer Fire Council

The next application period for the Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) Grants will open soon. Administered by the Grant Programs Directorate in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency, FP&S grants are part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program and support projects that enhance the safety of the public and firefighters from fire and related hazards. In addition to funding fire prevention activities, the grant can also support firefighter safety research and development.

The main goal of FP&S grants is to reduce incidences of injuries and deaths among high-risk groups, including firefighters, children, and adults over 65. Examples of the types of projects supported by FP&S grants include fire prevention and public safety education campaigns, juvenile firesetter interventions, media campaigns, and arson prevention and awareness programs. Departments have also successfully applied for FP&S grants to help support a Fire Corps program and to implement health and safety initiatives within the department.

Stay tuned to the FP&S web site at www.firegrantsupport.com/fps for information on the application period and to apply for a grant.
