The funds are the maximum amount awarded by the state and will go toward matching the need for the purchase of a new ambulance
The $565,782 FEMA grant will pay for the firefighters at the department for the next two years

The nearly $5K grant funded the purchase of a RAD 57 machine used that will be used to test carbon monoxide levels of patients who may have been exposed, and firefighters who may have inhaled too much smoke
The agency is able to purchase more than 800 MHZ radios when a non-matching grant doubled to $176K
The $453,000 grant will cover the salaries and benefits for the firefighters for two years
One grant is for the Student Awareness Fire Education program and the second grant is for the Senior Awareness Fire Education
The grant fund will help ease the problem of areas in the county where responders are cut off from all communication
The Veterans Hiring Program sets aside $20 million to recruit or hire military veterans to fill SAFER-funded positions
The new station will allow for improved response times
“We have applied unsuccessfully for many grants for a new engine for the last 10 years,” one fire official said
The SAFER grant is anticipated to cover all salary and benefits of six firefighters for two years at the station
